About Me
My name is Kate Yates and I have worked in Education for almost 25 years, 12 of which in senior leadership. I have been headteacher in two Wirral schools and was an English consultant for the National Strategies for 2 years. My passion for curriculum development, in particular English, is what has driven me to create Turning Tides Education. I hope to inspire and support colleagues to build a bespoke curriculum for English which reflects their school's ethos as well as providing mirrors and windows for every child in their school community.
I am also very passionate about performing arts and aim to give children confidence to express themselves through a secure command of spoken language and through imagination and creativity. I have performed in and directed numerous shows on Wirral and hope to bring the benefits of this experience to this role.
Curriculum Courses
Courses are based around designing the best English curriculum for your school - choosing texts that reflect your ethos and vision. We also look at how, through high quality teaching of spoken language, standards in reading and writing can be raised.
Curriculum Consultancy
I offer bespoke INSET training, staff meetings and twilights. I am also available to work with SLTs and subject leaders to support developing the vision for English and building your curriculum as well as working alongside teaching staff to support with planning and teaching.
Curriculum Workshops
Workshops are aimed at teachers and TAs with a focus on bespoke support for planning, subject knowledge and assessment. These sessions are in small groups, no bigger than 8, so while colleagues still are able to network and share practice with other schools, the support is personalized and relevant to their needs.
Reading Buddies
I run Saturday morning reading/drama clubs for children from 3-8 years old, celebrating high quality children's literature and developing a love of books through drama, games and activities.
Holiday Clubs
Our holiday clubs have a performing arts focus involving singing, dance and drama. There is a theme for each club and children will take part in a range of activities in a friendly, encouraging environment. The week culminates in a showcase for families.
